A founder’s note to React Video Editor (RVE).

Founder Notes

React Video Editor (RVE) exists because building and maintaining video editing inside your app is genuinely hard.

Even with the latest AI models, getting anywhere close to tools like Canva or CapCut takes a significant amount of time, engineering effort, and cost. And once you get there, maintaining it is just as hard. React Video Editor was built to remove that overhead.

It’s a browser-based video editor designed to integrate directly into your product.

The React Video Editor SDK gives you the quickest path to launch. Delivered as a private npm package, it can be added to any React app (Next.js, Vite, etc.) with minimal setup. Ongoing updates and improvements are handled for you, so your team can focus on building, not maintaining.

For teams that want deeper control, the full source code is available. This allows for complete customisation, with direct support to help integrate RVE seamlessly into your product. Our goal is to ensure the editing experience you deliver is on par with the best tools available.

And because we think the future of editing is smarter, we’re working on AI Video Agents. Drop-in tools for transitions, highlight detection, summaries, cuts, and more. Layer clean AI workflows into your editor without reinventing the wheel.

This documentation covers everything. How to get started with the SDK, how to go deeper with the source, and where things are heading next.
